PUBLIC NOTICE - “At Fault” False Alarm Reduction Policy
18-March-08
spacer

Wellington County Police Services Board

The Wellington County Police Services Board (W.C.P.S.B.), developed a false alarm policy aimed at reducing the number of false alarms since 2002. Since inception, the Wellington County O.P.P. have responded to approximately 1600 false alarms yearly, that required 3,312 officer hours.

Most of these alarms are caused by human error or equipment malfunction. False Alarms have a serious impact on police service resources; resources which could be better utilized to enhance police presence throughout Wellington County.

The Wellington County Police Services Board and Wellington County O.P.P. are working toward reducing the number of False Alarms requiring Police response, by continuing to monitor alarm locations and issuing fee invoices to the owners of premises having “At Fault” False Alarms.

“At Fault” False Alarms are those which are caused by human error or equipment problems, requiring Police response, with no evidence of a criminal offence or attempted criminal offence.

Fees For False Alarms

1st - $50.00
2nd - $100.00 within 12 months of first.
3rd - $200.00 within 12 months of first.
4th - $300.00 increasing $100.00 per occurrence thereto

The Wellington O.P.P. and the Wellington County Police Services Board believe that by working closely with you, the alarm holder, we can jointly address the issue of unnecessary false alarms, and ensure your alarm system remains a valid and reliable defence against crime.

Should you have any questions or would like further information, please call Kelly-Ann Hall, Alarm Coordinator at the County of Wellington (519) 837-2600 Ext. 2510 or visit our website @ www.wellington.ca .
