PROGRAMMES
PRESCHOOL PROGRAMMES
Preschool programmes are presented 4 times a year.
Each programme runs for 5 consecutive weeks.
January 2010 programme registration is now open.
Please call or come in to the library to register.
PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.
PLEASE SIGN UP EARLY – SPACE IS LIMITED.
Please note – All of our programmes are designed for children of specific ages. Please adhere to the age guidelines provided when registering for programmes. Parents are asked to stay with their children for all preschool programmes.
WINTER 2010 PRESCHOOL PROGRAMME SCHEDULE
Wee Busy Bees
For children 12 – 24 months
A fun, fast-paced programme of songs, stories and rhymes for busy wee ones.
Monday January 11 - Monday February 8
10:30 – 11 am
Toddlertime
For children 24 - 36 months
Geared towards parents and toddlers, this programme uses stories, songs, finger plays, rhymes and crafts to encourage a life-long love of reading and books.
Tuesday January 12– Tuesday February 9
10:30 – 11 am
Storytime
For children 3 – 5 years
Presented with the preschool child in mind, this programme includes theme related stories, songs, finger plays, rhymes and crafts.

SCHOOL AGED PROGRAMMES
NINE 2 TWELVE BOOK CLUB
Thursdays, November 19 - December 17, 4 - 5 pm

The Nine 2 Twelve Book Club is a literacy-based club filled with lively chat, fun activities and refreshments for kids 9 to 12 years old.

ADULT PROGRAMMES
GENEALOGY WORKSHOPS
No workshops in December, workshops will resume January 2010.
Annual Programming such as March Break and Summer Reading Club, children’s entertainers, author/illustrator visits, craft days and contests are featured throughout the year. Pick up a copy of our Wellington County Newsletter or check this web site for full details.
SPECIAL LIBRARY VISITS
Fergus Branch continues to support literacy in the community. Curriculum-based class visits can be arranged, please book two weeks in advance. Specialized daycare and homeschool presentations are also available. Take a tour, hear a story, learn what’s new at your library!
Fergus Branch also provides Visiting Library Services to Highland Manor and Caressant Care Seniors Homes on a monthly basis. Children’s staff provides bi-monthly outreach services to JD Hogarth Community Resource Centre.

Service Ontario Pilot Project
ServiceOntario is now making it easy to access the information, services and resources you need, when and how you need them. Whether you’re getting married starting a new business or want to learn more about your workplace or industry, it is all available through Fergus Branch of Wellington County Library and ServiceOntario. A computer station will be available at the Fergus Branch with one-on-one assistance from staff.

Library Information
The first library in Fergus was founded in 1835 by Adam Fergusson,his partner James Webster,Alexander D. Fordyce, Mr. A. D. Ferrier, Hugh Black, James McQueen, and George Wilson. Alexander D. Fordyce was the first Fergus librarian and the books were kept in a room in his home. Fordyce later became the first Warden of Wellington County.
In 1857 the free library became a 'Farmers and Mechanics' Institute. In 1862, the library was set up in a room in the Temperence Hall on St. Andrew Street West. In 1904, plans were initiated with Andrew Carnegie to erect a Carnegie Library in Fergus. The present Carnegie library was built in 1910.
In January of 1999, the Fergus Public Library joined the Wellington County Library system.
