FOREST CONSERVATION BY-LAW 5115-09
On September 24, 2009, the County of Wellington passed a new Forest Conservation By-law 5115-09. It has been in effect since that day. At the same time former Tree By-law 3961 was repealed. The new by-law is based on enabling legislation provided by the Municipal Act.
Notices of Intent and applications for Minor Exceptions have been replaced by three new types of permits:
• Good Forestry Permit
• Circumference Permit
• Clearing Permit
The permit application forms are contained within the new by-law [see Key Documents below] under Schedules C, D and E, respectively.
Unless an activity is covered under the Exemptions Section 3 of the by-law, a permit approved by the County is required prior to any cutting. The cutting or destruction of trees without a permit is a Provincial Offence.
If in doubt or if you have any questions, please contact one of our Forest Conservation By-law Officers:
John Benham (519) 846-3394 for southern portion of Wellington County
Angelo Giovinazzo (519) 835-8722 for northern portion of Wellington County
